I am always afraid of losing Bunny in a crowd. It only takes a second. Bunny is getting to be very fast and my belly is getting to be very round. This is making me not so fast. Bunny is also becoming more adventurous and wandering farther away from me than before. BuddyTag is a handy watch like safety device that helps you keep track of your child in a crowd.

BuddyTag consists of a “tag” which is a small, oval shaped, bluetooth enabled tracker. The tag fits into a wristband that looks similar to a watch. BuddyTag alerts you when your child is out of range and when it is submerged in water for more than 5 seconds. BuddyTag also has a panic button for your child to press which sends an alert to you. BuddyTag is also a personal ID which helps reunite your child if they get lost. BuddyTag connects to your phone or iPad and works via blue tooth.

BuddyTag connects to a free app to alert you to your child’s location. BuddyTag’s app works with iPhones 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, 6 and 6 plus, as well as the fourth generation iPad, iPad mini, and fifth generation iPod touch. BuddyTag’s app also works with Samsng Galaxy S3, S4 and Note 3 using Android version 4.3 and newer. BuddyTag is constantly updating their app and adding new platforms for their app.

BuddyTag’s range is up to 120 feet. This is great for the zoo, the mall, an amusement park as well as other open spaces. Indoors, like in my house, where there are many walls BuddyTag’s distance may be reduced up to 40 feet.  BuddyTag is water proof and will alert you when it has been submerged in water for more than 5 seconds. This is very handy for making sure your child is safe near water.

Another very cool feature BuddyTag has is a panic button. If your child gets lost or feels like they are in danger, they can push the panic button and an alert will be sent to you. This is a very busy time of year and the stores get crowded. It doesn’t take much for a child to get lost. They could be in the next isle, or simply don’t see you in the crowd. The panic button allows both you and your child to be reunited quickly.

Setting up BuddyTag is very easy. First you need to make sure your Blue Tooth is enabled. After you have done that you simply push the button on your BuddyTag and open the BuddyTag app. Your BuddyTag should appear in your app almost instantly. You can connect as many BuddyTag’s as you need! Inside the app you can customize each BuddyTag. You can name each BuddyTag and set the distance for each BuddyTag. If you have a toddler, like me, you can set the range to “near” instead of “far.” If you have an older child, you can set the range to “far.”

I used BuddyTag at the zoo with Bunny, 22 months, and her cousin, 7 years old. I customized each BuddyTag for each child. Bunny is “baby” and her cousin is “kid.” BuddyTag has a neat feature inside the app that allows you to see how far away your child is. Bunny “wore” her BuddyTag in her jacket pocket, and her cousin wore his on his wrist like a watch.

BuddyTag is very handy for large, crowded venues. BuddyTag does NOT replace adequate supervision. It was nice when using BuddyTag to have an alert whenever Bunny or her cousin were out of range. I could see them and see how far away they were and tell them to come back near me. BuddyTag allowed them to explore a nice distance away from me while knowing their boundaries. BuddyTag sends an alert to your phone, not to the tag.
