If you have been following my pregnancy journey, you know I have hip and pelvic pain. I have seen a physical therapist and am currently seeing a chiropractor. During pregnancy your body releases hormones, one of which is relaxin, to help prepare your hips and pelvis for delivery. I have been told this hormone is also released when you are nursing. Since I am pregnant AND nursing, I have a lot of this hormone in my body. This contributes to my hip and pelvic pain. Other than being very careful about my body’s position (no crossing my legs, try not to move my hips and shoulders separately, sit up very carefully, and more) the only other thing that can help me with this pain is a hip brace.
A hip brace is different than a maternity support belt in that a hip brace is meant to squeeze and support your hips, whereas a maternity support belt is meant to lift the load of your growing belly and takes pressure away from your legs and back. I have, and often use, a maternity support belt, but I also use and NEED my hip brace. When my pelvis and hips hurt, I run (limp) to my hip brace.
