babybay Bedside Sleeper vs. Halo Bassinet Swivel Sleeper

Based on the names one would think the babybay Bedside Sleeper and the Halo Bassinet Swivel Sleeper are similar. While they both can be a bassinet for a baby, that is where the similarities end. If you are trying to decide between the babybay Bedside Sleeper and the Halo Bassinet Swivel Sleeper you are in the right place!

The babybay Bedside Sleeper is a bedside sleeper, which means baby can be IN the bed with you while being in their own space. The Halo Bassinet Swivel Sleeper is a bassinet, NOT a bedside sleeper. The Consumer Product Safety Commission defines “bedside sleeper” as “a rigid frame assembly that may be combined with a fabric or mesh assembly, or both, used to function as sides, ends, or floor or a combination thereof, and that is intended to provide a sleeping environment for infants and is secured to an adult bed.” A bassinet is a freestanding bed that does not attach to the parents bed. This is the first major difference between the babybay Bedside Sleeper and the Halo Bassinet Swivel Sleeper.

While the Halo Bassinet Swivel Sleeper does allow you to have baby close to you in bed, it does not allow baby to be in bed with you, or in their own space with no barrier between you and baby. The Halo can swivel to sit on top of the bed but baby will always be in their own space with a bar and mesh in between. The babybay Bedside Sleeper allows you to have baby right next to you in their own space without any barrier between you and baby.

babybay Bedside Sleeper can connect to your bed to be a bedside co sleeper or can be disconnected to be a free standing bassinet. babybay has the option to purchase wheels so you can easily move babybay in bassinet mode throughout the house. The Halo Bassinet Swivel Sleeper does not connect to your bed, it is always a free standing bassinet. The Halo does not have the option to move it around but is pretty bulky and awkward to move. Where you put the Halo is where you want it to stay.

Both the babybay Bedside Sleeper and the Halo Bassinet Swivel Sleeper have adjustable heights allowing you to use both products with any size bed. The Halo bassinet does have a few features on the higher end models that the babybay does not have. These features are a night light, a nursing timer, vibration and sound. The babybay does have upgradable features that Halo does not. These features are a canopy, different colored sheets and bedding, a baby nest, a bedside organizer, wheels, different kind of mattresses and an attachment that turns babybay into a free standing bassinet.

babybay Bedside Sleeper is easy to move from room to room and is multifunctional whereas Halo Bassinet Swivel Sleeper is very difficult to move and only functions as a bassinet. To move Halo around you do need to take the top of the bassinet off then put up the heavy, large base with the four posts and set it where you would like it to be. Then you put the bassinet on top of the base. The bassinet does not sit on the floor evenly, it does need to be on the base. To move the babybay you simply detach it from your bed, make sure you have the wheels on it and roll it where it needs to go. It fits through every doorway in my house! Halo does have a push down side to allow you easy access to baby, but in the middle of the night it is difficult to use and not very handy at all.

babybay does have more space for baby vs the Halo. As you can see in the photos below, my baby has a bit more room in the babybay, which means the babybay would last longer. Also, since you can move the babybay down as baby gets older you can extend the life of babybay. I would move the babybay mattress down once baby can sit up, crawl or stand, that way baby can not fall out of the babybay. You can not change the depth of the Halo.

babybay is eco friendly and made of beachwood in Germany. babybay’s mission statement is “safe, ethically manufactured, sustainably resourced, and that are made of fully non-toxic components.” If having eco friendly, non toxic products is important to you, babybay is the perfect baby bed for you!

If you are sure you would not like to co sleep and bed share but want baby close to you, the Halo would be the bassinet for you. If you know you would like to co sleep and bed share, or if you are on the fence, I would highly suggest babybay. If you decide you do not want to bed share you can easily turn babybay into a bassinet. If you have the Halo and decide you would like to bed share you will need to buy a new unit. babybay is the best co sleeper currently made. I wish everyone knew about babybay. babybay makes it easy, convenient and safe for every parent to co sleep and bed share.
