Baby Shower Registry Ideas and Giveaway!

It is getting to be that time of my pregnancy, where baby showers happen! Since this is my third baby, I am not having a baby shower. But for those first time moms it can be overwhelming to know what to register for! Never fear, I am here to help! I will try to keep this short and sweet.

First, don’t register for any clothing. 90% of people will buy you clothing, mainly in newborn or 0-3 month size. They don’t care what YOU think is cute, they are buying what THEY think is cute. Go with it. And stop buying newborn and 0-3 month clothes for yourself! Trust me, you will have PLENTY of those after your baby shower!

Baby blankets are a must. aden + anais swaddles are THE BEST. Seriously they are so soft, double as a nursing cover if you so desire, and are breathable. I love me some aden + anais swaddles! We have about 50 of them in our house.

A car seat is a must for every baby. I would suggest putting this on your registry but do not expect anyone to buy it. A group of people or a close family member may buy it, but don’t be sad if that doesn’t happen. My personal favorites are the Orbit Baby G3 Infant Car Seat and the Britax Advocate ClickTight Convertible Car Seat. Either one can be used from birth but the Britax can be used for years to come. The Orbit Infant seat will last you for about a year then you will need to purchase a convertible car seat.

Some people love to register for a travel system, the car seat and stroller set together. Orbit Baby does have an amazing travel system!

Burp rags are a must and so are bibs. Why not buy one product that can be both?! aden + anais Burpy Bibs are super soft, super cute and super convenient. Use them as a burp rag and when baby gets older use them as a bib!

If you are bottle feeding you may want to register for baby bottles. I would suggest registering for 2-3 days worth of bottles, or at least 20 bottles. Unless you will be hand washing each bottle after using, you will want this many bottles! But be warned! The bottles YOU want may not be the bottles BABY wants. So only open one pack and see if baby likes these bottles. That way you can return the unused bottles and start the guessing game of which bottles does baby like! My baby only took the Adiri NxGen Newborn Nurser bottle.

A drying rack is a must. If you bottle feed, breast feed, pump for any reason, or have any small parts (which you will because you now have a baby) you will NEED a drying rack. I personally love BINGONE Baby Bottle Drying Dish Rack Grass. There are many brands that do the grass drying rack, but this one is less expensive and comes in an oval! I love the accessories and highly suggest getting one or two, Boon Twig Grass and Lawn Drying Rack Accessory. These are great for the really small parts.

Another great item to have is a Back Seat Mirror. This allows you to see baby when they are rear facing, which they should be for at least 2 years. It’s nice to see if baby is awake, asleep, still breathing. Or maybe I am paranoid 🙂

A baby carrier is a must as well. Read more about which carrier to get and why HERE.

Baby toys are always fun to register for! Find what looks fun to you! These are some of my babies favorites. Squeeze Blocksring toy/teether (we lost the ring with our last baby and, even though this is a boy, we will be buying it again! It was the FAVORITE toy for both of my girls.), Sassy 21-piece Toy and Teether Gift Set – AssortedGreen Toys Sorting and Stacking Bundle and Green Toys My First Keys Baby Toy.

Books are a must! Reading to babies is so much fun and it helps their brain development. Some of our favorite baby books are Peek-A-Boo Forest, any Llama Llama bookLlama Llama Hoppity-HopOn the Night You Were Born and I Love You Through And Through.

You’ll need a safe place to set baby down. To pee, make dinner, or just have a break. My kids hated swings but LOVED the Automatic Bouncer. The mamaRoo is a popular baby holder. Neither of my babies liked it, but every baby is different! Another great option is the Graco Simple Sway Baby Swing. Simple, easy to use, great price!

We did not end up using a bassinet but if you plan on using one, or a crib, add it to your registry! I love the look of this Wood Bassinet. I think we are doing this baby’s room in turquoise and this Convertible Crib would match perfectly! Find what you love and add it!

If you see anything else that grabs you, put it on your registry. There are so many different places to register at. Target, Buy Buy Baby, Amazon, BabiesRUs. Put anything and everything on your list! Most places give a decent discount (10-20%) off all the un-purchased items on your list AFTER your baby shower. If you think you want it, throw it on your registry so you can get the discount!

  1. The Mamaroo is my must have on my registry! I have heard so many good things about them. I didn’t even have a swing for my first baby, so with twins on the way, I think having a Mamaroo will be very helpful.

  2. This is a really informative post. Most of the times, I blank out on gift ideas for expecting friends and end up giving them cash or store cards.., but I think a gift would be much more nicer.

  3. What a great article to help those who need it. When I was having babies WAY back in the day I had no idea what I really NEEDED! I imagine it is even harder to know these days since there are so many more products on the market. You really gave great advice here.

  4. I’m going to be practical and say that I want to stock up Kiinde breastmilk storage pouches. But, I also love the reviews I’ve seen for Dockatot. And, we could ALWAYS use more books!

  5. I think it’s important to have a registry so that people know what to give you instead of the usual clothing and stuff. These are all wonderful items!

  6. This is great advice both for the mom-to-be and the people who will be attending her baby shower. I like that you suggest not to open the bottles since baby might not like them. I love that you included books.

  7. This is going to be my go to post when it comes to baby shower gifts. Oftn we tend to get carried away with the cuteness and but things that realistically can never be used.

  8. I remember that on my baby shower I asked for diapers! and you wont believe me if I tell you that I didnt buy any single diaper until my baby turns 4 months old! that was the best I could ask for LOL I saved a looot of money.. of course I asked for many things too but the diapers was the most important!

  9. Lol, people will buy you clothes they like throughout the child’s life!!! You listed some great items. You can weigh your options if you want the big ticket items on there or if your buying them yourself. I would encourage neutral colors just incase their is thoughts of future children.

  10. We are getting ready for baby #3, so we don’t have a lot of items that we “need” for baby. I really want a nice set of swaddles that are just for baby since there are so many hand me downs.

  11. I would also suggest that if you know you will have multiple baby showers that you consider having one dedicated to diapers and wipes. Oh the millions of diapers and wipes you will go through and they cost so much. If you have a stock pile it saves on your pocket.

  12. Tons of great baby shower gift ideas. I know that when we received a high quality stroller when my daughter was born it was the most useful gift ever that lasted a few years and then got passed onto family to continue to use.

  13. These are some great ideas. I recently organized a baby shower for a friend and we had most of these items on her baby registry. I love how colorful and cute these products are.
